Abstract:   (18 Views)
This article examines the challenges Afghan migrants face in accessing healthcare services in Tehran and the impact of their living and working conditions on their health. It also analyzes the economic and social factors influencing their well-being. The study employes a qualitative approach, combining documentary analysis with fieldwork consisting of limited participant observation and semi-structured interviews (individual and group) with residents, migrants, and local officials. Fieldwork has been carried out in the Zehtabi neighborhood of District XVII in Tehran, which is notable for its significant Afghan migrant population. The collected data have been analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. The findings indicate that Afghan migrants face significant health challenges and are at risk of various diseases due to poor housing conditions, informal employment, and limited access to healthcare services. The intersection of social, economic, and institutional inequalities places this group in a precarious and vulnerable position. The study concludes that revising macro-level and urban policies is necessary to improve healthcare access for migrants and reduces their social exclusion.
